Sometimes I would be on. Utah Carl was on, as was his son on occasion. My dad was farm director. Got to meet Emmet Kelly when the circus came to town. Saw a lot of rodeos and county fairs, too. Lived in LaMarque. KGUL did a remote broadcast from the Queen of Peace church in LaMarque. He also did play-byplay for Galveston White Cap games.pjthedjhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04404536204104378986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766534511299368622.post-3247765254431831222014-07-03T19:30:16.473-05:002014-07-03T19:30:16.473-05:00The KGUL Houston studios were in the Prudential Bu...The KGUL Houston studios were in the Prudential Building, near the Shamrock on what was then close to the south edge of Houston, perhaps that's where it was? I remember the show was in one of the Houston hotels in the south part of Houston. I'm not sure if it was the Shamrock-Hilton or the Rice Hotel. I am Charles Young. He picked and shot the footage that would end each broadcasting day at KGUL. It was of the beach at Galveston, waves and sea gulls in flight. He also chose the music, Clair De Lone. This played for many years back in the 50"s. It was such a beautiful way to end each day. His name was Jim Sam Richards. Unfortunately, we lost Jim to cancer at the age of 32. Clair De Lone was played at his funeral.Jo Ann Atkinsonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766534511299368622.post-46938423678114548182013-04-25T19:02:05.061-05:002013-04-25T19:02:05.061-05:00Thanks, Pat. I remember the long drive & getting to the draw bridge that was crossed when going into Galveston. I also remember Jim
Ross who was a good friend of my dad's. To sum all of this up, my dad's show was the Don Mahoney show, & reading about KGUL-TV brings back so many memories, & it is so wonderful to be a part of the past.
Thanks,
(formerly, Pat Mahoney)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
