According to a post on a thread on RI, the calls were used for another month but the programming was a simulcast with KKBQ-FM, 790. I know that the change of frequency took place before the format flip. My best memory is that it was late summer of 1982. According to that same thread on RI, yes, 92.1 was the catalyst for the move but I also remember mention of a station in Bay City. I thought that might have been KKHA, Markham, now on 92.5, but apparently KMKS was on that frequency then and moved up to 102.5 subsequently.

No one on RI had all the dates back then; perhaps if you posted about it now, someone will have come up with them.Brucehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02689118444867837021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766534511299368622.post-77584098599284084652013-06-24T11:33:46.802-05:002013-06-24T11:33:46.802-05:00I'd like to correct the wikipedia entry. Played easy listening music buy the Living Strings, Johnny Mathis, etc. We broadcasted the Brazosport High School Basketball games some nights. Everything was canned and I did no broadcasting. They referred the music as "Music for dining and delectation" in the promo's. After that, I did a summer stint at KIOX in Bay City as a DJ. That was a fun fun job. I'd just left another Schulke format in Albany NY and was bunking with my buddy in Houston looking for (non-radio)work when I stumbled on the station, went to tour the studio out of curiosity and was offered a PT job on the spot by PD Tom Moran. I left after a few weeks for Phoenix but remember the gorgeous view from the glass-walled studio way up in some bank building in Pasadena. I got my 'Su...'s' mixed up. Owners of 790 that I know of were Texas Star (original), Texas Radio, Winston-Salem, Southern, and Harte-Hanks; I believe you are correct that Gannett also owned it. Owners of the FM were Felix Morales (original), Sudbrink, Southern, Harte-Hanks (which owned it when it flipped to KKBQ) and Gannett, now Cox. I will have to check the date; I think I had 1992 from a reliable source so I will compare.
